Pirate Day

Ahoy me 4th grade mateys! Avast, pirate day went off without a hook. Me mateys began our day in the briny deep pod as one giant crew. We read Pirate Pete Talk Like a Pirate to get in the spirit of the day and enjoyed some pirate humor. After we swabbed the deck, we headed for bus evacuation where we all had to "walk the plank". To continue with our geography study we made classroom treasure maps. x marks the spot!
Blimey! Incoming cannons! After lunch, we took on a STEAM challenge. We worked in crews to make our own Jolly Rogers (out of tin foil) and see how many cannonballs (marbles) they could withstand.
Me hearties battened down their ships for one giant game of 4th grade battleship. What better way to practice our longitude and latitude skills than trying to sink pirate ships with a human size grid? No hornswaggling here! Navigation teams, first mates and deckhands all worked hard to try and win the booty.
Yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for us!
