Tidepools

Written by guest blogger Finn
Howe-Manning 4th graders run onto the rocks looking for crabs like a stampede of buffalo! After a long bus ride, these kids are happy to see their chaperones at our field trip to Odiorne Point in Rye, NH. At the tide pools, you can jump on rocks and look in little pools to find a variety of sea creatures! Some found crabs, shrimp, sea urchins, or sea snails!
Fun facts!
  • Did you know that a whale's rib is as wide as a boat?
  • Did you know that a swordfish will act normal in front of fish but then swing its sword to catch them?
  • Did you know that if a sea star (NOT starfish) loses its arm with a little bit of the middle, it can grow another sea star!
We also got to explore the Seacoast Science Center touch tanks! These touch tanks are filled with cool sea creatures for us to see and hold. There was a variety of crabs, fish, shrimp, jellyfish, all you can think of! But there were also other rooms filled with lobsters, crabs, skatefish, and more! In some rooms, there were sea enemies that would electrocute fish if they came close. There were also eels that were swimming in little pipes to go around their fish tank!
Well, the buses are here so say goodbye to your chaperones and hop on!
